Use cork grease every time your woodwind or reed instrument needs to be assembled.  EVERY time, apply a swipe of cork grease to the cork seals.  This makes the cork last longer and helps prevent tearing and damage to the cork.  

Saxophones, clarinets, bassoons, and oboes just can’t have a happy life without a good dose of cork grease evrey time the instrument is assembled.

Cork grease costs very little compared to having a tenon re-corked, so use it freely, and use it often.
